A visit to Truman Library

This was Saturday's sunset, the sky was orange we should have gone up the road to get photos it was just beautiful.
Sunday the weather was cooler and less humid, a perfect evening for the Edward Jones Celebration of the Spirit at the Truman Library.
Hamburgers and hot dogs were served, the museum was open to us, and a band for entertainment it was a nice evening.
We spotted a couple of Night Hawks flying around the museum and on the way home we spotted a Scissortail Flycatcher on the power line just before Mosby.
Always on the look out for birds!!!
The lawn did fill up, we like to go early to get a shady spot and good parking.
Harry and Bess were there of course, I should have used flash on them .

A couple of Truman Quotes
Only things worth learning are the things you learn after you know it all.

It's a recession when your neighbor losses his job, it's a depression when you lose yours.

I never did give anybody hell. I just told the truth and they thought it was hell.

Waterfest 09

It's Waterfest time again in Ex. Springs and we went to the parade today, Maria Antonia was the Grand Marshal. Maria is a local news anchor that lives in the Excelsior area. The Marching Cobras were here again.
It was a bit hot but the dogs were out.
(click to enlarge photo to read this guy's T)

We went down yesterday to see the vendors, where I bought a couple of old postcards to add to my collection.
Went back last night to listen to the band, the Re Max hot air balloon was there giving tethered rides so we thought why not (it's not the real ride we want but it may be the closest we get).

We had a new visitor to our jelly feeder, a Northern Pearly Eye Satyr.

This guy was by our door today, maybe looking to get into a cooler spot, Ken did take it to our flower garden hoping it will enjoy a few bugs there.

A sad day...

We have lost 2 icons today, Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett
and a couple of days ago Ed McMahon.
I saw Michael and his brothers in K.C. back in 1984 when they did their Victory Tour, went with my friend Cheryl and her daughter. Something I won't forget!!
It's been a crazy news week with the killing of the coach in IA, the 4 killed in K.C., KS , all the protests in Iran and the North Korea threat.
It seems to early to be having our heat alerts, K.C. had two deaths from the heat, I didn't think June was our hot month it's more like August.
.
It's been to hot to be out and about so I did this watercolor today.
Art is not simply works of art, it is the spirit that knows beauty, that has music in its soul and the color of sunsets in its handkerchief, that can dance on a flaming world and make the world dance, too.

Theatrical weekend

Summer has arrived and it's hot and humid so now instead of storm warnings we have heat warnings.
Sat. evening we decided to take in Excelsior Springs Kiwanis's production of Oklahoma . There are some very talented people, we enjoyed the the show.
Sunday evening we went to Kansas City's annual Shakespeare Festival for their performance of The Merry Wives of Windsor. It was excellent, our favorite Shakespeare play so far, it's fun and easy to follow. There was a nice breeze so the evening was quite pleasant. We had our little cooler with water and a little baggie of cantaloupe to enjoy. We get there when the gates open to get a good spot to put up our chairs and people watch.
This couple brought all the comforts of home, fans, big cooler filled with food and wine, we thought the air mattress a bit much. Many bring coolers filled with food and drink, we are lazy taking only our chairs and small cooler we know if we want a drink that we can buy it there.
Hope you all had a good weekend.
"Why, then the world's mine oyster." from the Merry Wives of Windsor

More storms

It is a hot and humid day which is bringing in storms, so far we have been lucky and gotten only rain with the past storms.
A neighbor has a cute yard, here is a little bit of it, she like flamingos.

A New Bird

We had a new visiter to the feeding station this morning, an Eurasian Collared Dove, we hadn't seen them before. A neighbor saw them and came over to ask us what kind of dove they were and this morning we saw them in our yard. I didn't get a good photo thru the window but you can see the collar. We also caught another jelly eater this morning, no wonder we go thru so much jelly. They had also knocked the nut feeder off the branch.
This morning we also discovered someone had silly stringed the front of the RV sometime in the night. Ken had just cleaned it too!
That's been our Sunday, hope you all had a nice weekend.

A dry day

We finally had a couple of dry days and the temps are nice and cool would be nice if summer were like this and not hot.
My lilies are finally blooming.
Friday night we went down to Ex. Sprs Art Crawl. They had a 3 piece band playing some interesting photography and art. There's not a lot, only 4 shops hosting a couple of artists.
Did have a nice visit with the husband of one of the shop owners, turns out he was one of the regular golfers at the courses I used to work at.
I can't forget there was wine tasting too, MO wines. We now have a winery outside of Ex. Sprgs.
Ken and I should go visit it sometime soon, the wine was good that I tasted. They bought the grapes for this vintage but will be using their own grapes within the next couple of years.
It takes four years before the grapevines produce but the vines will live for 30 plus years.
We just worked today, Ken cleaned the bugs off the RV and I cleaned out the guest room.
I forgot, I went to a couple of garage sales this morning, I go to the ones I can walk to.
I bought 5 pairs of pants, nice looking for $5, so I'm set for awhile.

Rain and more rain

It looks like it will be a wet week around here. This photo was an e-mail, it's of one of the main streets in Westport part of KC. Doesn't it look fun???
So not much happening around here, Ken did take advantage of the dry spell this afternoon and got the lawn mowed. He moved the flat screem TV in to the RV, I think he'll miss watching it in the house.
We are making plans to go to the Penniman Reunion, we have my mother flying in so she can visit with them. The reunion is in Agency, IA in July. So we have something to look forward too.
Ken has gone through 4 qts of grape jelly, besides the Orioles enjoying it the Catbirds, Robins and Grackles are feasting on it too.
I would like to say Hello to Ramona and Eva, hope you enjoy my blog.

Going back in Time

Friday and Saturday we went to Kingston, Mo to their 1st Civil War Reenactment. Friday was kids day, bus loads of kids came were given demenstrations and talks and we listened in. These reactors really know their history and the details of the time. Friday evening we watched the Artilery Night Fire show. Saturday we went back to get photos of the battle. The crowds were larger and so it was harder to see the action at the courthouse. I'd say Kingston had a successful weekend and that without seeing Sundays action and crowd.

Sorting out photos

Sorry, I haven't been blogging regularly, but not much happening lately.I did go to the Red Hat lunch today at Applebees , we had a nice turn out and a good time. Monday, I went thrift store shopping with Shirley, it was 75% off to seniors I know I'm not yet a senior but Shirley just threw my few pieces in with hers. I found a couple of nice tops I was hoping to find some capris but no luck there.
I've been going through all the photos I took over the winter and deleting the worst and repeats, so far I've deleted over 1000 photos. It has been fun going through my photos, we sure saw lot of different birds and had a great time at Hummingbird Cove.
When I'm not going through photos I've been going over the Penniman Family site, updating my family tree. The Penniman's are having a family reunion and one the distant cousins set up this site for family to send photos, and family info.
