Another beautiful day

We went back to Weslaco to Fronteria Audubon Thicket to go birding, it was a perfect day just a breeze and 77 degrees. We saw two new butterflies and a couple new birds the lesser Goldfinch, the Ovenbird and maybe the Clay Robin not sure with new birds unless there is someone there to help identify them for sure and or we get a good photo we can use to identify against the books. I believe this is a Texan Crescent.

The wind is coming back for a couple of days, there seems to be alot of windy days.

A nice day for a walk

A nice day for a walk in a state park, Estero Llano Grande S. P. in Weslaco where I took this pic of a Funereal Duskywing, a first for me. And a nice day to be out sunning like this alligator, one of 3 that we saw in the S. P.

It was nice to be out birding again and discovering new places.

Ken has his computer up and running again. He sent for a new hard drive and installed it and all his programs himself.

Another Windy Day

Another windy day here, sunny tho, we went to a movie and saw New in Town it was cute.
On the way home we saw trucks hauling sugar cane in Rio Hondo so we decided to follow them to see where they were harvesting. It's not far from us about 10 miles. They have these warning signs by all the sugar cane fields as they burn the fields before going in to harvest them. Here they are in the burned field harvesting.

Here's the machine they use. They take it to a sugar processing house right a way to process it. Would be fun to learn about that part of the sugar cane growing business.

Tomorrow should be a nicer day to be out and looking for birds.

A new visitor at feeder

Are you all getting tired of hearing about our birds?? To bad!! We had a new visitor to our feeder yesterday an Altamira Oriole, what a beautiful bird. This morning there seems to be no birds, not even a black bird. The sun was out yesterday so we went for a drive along Hwy 4 to Boca Chica beach which is south of Padre Island out of Brownsville. We then drove to S. P. I. and had a late lunch at Dirty Al's Seafood and Bait that everyone raves about, I didn't think it that great, I had a better seafood basket at S.P.I Brewery.

We made it back for Happy Hour at the park, which is fun to sit and visit with the people and find out what they have been doing. We learned out Rag shops last night, shops where you buy clothes by the pound.

The birds have arrived, must have slept in this morning. It's coffee and doughnuts up at the clubhouse this morning. MMMM

Not much going on

It's been an uneventiful week, the wind has been pretty stiff so it's no fun to be out but it's better than the weather back home. Today, we did go to S.P.I. to Market Days, not much of interest there for us so no purchases were made. We did walk out on the birding boardwalk and the skimmers were there today. Cool birds!! The other day we stopped at Hugh Ramsey Park and I got this photo of a Buff-bellied Hummingbird.

Hopefully this weekend will be nice and we'll go out and discover something new. Stay tuned!

Visit to Mexico

Sunday 16 of us from our park joined a tour to Mexico. We crossed the border at Roma to go to Miguel Alemdo, Mexico. We had a good time, here are some of my photos, note no birds were harmed in the cockfight demonstation.
